Happy Thanksgiving

We had planned on going out of town for Thanksgiving, but at the last minute changed our minds. I had been sick (and actually stayed home from work Monday and Tuesday) and we were just unwilling to risk a sick baby on the road or getting certain family members sick. (Wait, that sounds like it would be okay to get other family members sick, let me clarify. My cousin has recently had lap band surgery and getting sick would be particularly bad for her, so although most folks risk getting some kind of illness anytime they see a toddler, we were being especially careful.)

Luckily, the Hazens had plenty of room at their Thanksgiving table. Jeremy and Kara did most of the cooking:

The food was absolutely delicious. Both cooks took some risks: Jeremy made a new and improved broccoli and rice casserole and Kara tried peanut butter cup cheesecake.

Sydney's favorite, and actually the only thing she really ate was her daddy's chocolate chip cookies. (I'm taking this as a sign that she might be getting sick, since normally she has such a good appetite and really she didn't eat anything until dessert was offered.)

After dinner, Sydney, Peter, and Jeremy looked through the ads for good Black Friday deals. In the end, though, no one found anything that warrants dealing with mall madness to go shopping any time this weekend.

I'm grateful to the Hazens for hosting us last minute, especially since we may have brought a few extra germs with us. But I am sorry that we missed out on all of the family and friends we were looking forward to spending time with.
