Yes, Sydney is officially a big sister. Her brother, John Patrick was born on Sunday, May 17, at 3:52PM. He weighed 9 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 22 inches long. He has his very own blog which you can get to from the link on the side, or by clicking

Of course, one of the biggest questions in my mind the last nine months or so has been how Sydney would react to meeting our new baby. I finally got to see the two of them together yesterday at the hospital.

Gram had come to take care of Sydney while her Daddy and I were otherwise busy, so we let Gram bring Sydney up to the hospital. I made it a point to have Jack in the bassinet and not being held by either Jeremy or me, fully fed and not fussy when Sydney came in. Sydney came to me first and climbed into bed with me. According to Gram, she had been fairly calm all day but had a burst of hyperactive energy when she got to the hospital and saw her Daddy and me. We asked Sydney if she wanted to see the baby, and she did go over and look, but when we asked her if she could say, "Jack," she used her joking voice to say, "Noooooo." Like, yes of course I can say Jack, but why would I want to?

Then we had the nurse come in and bring Sydney her hospital gift. The gift was from her Daddy and me, of course, but Kara had remembered her mother having the nurse give her a baby when her brother was born, and we thought it was a good idea, so that's what we did.
Sydney was then way more interested in Baby (yes, her hospital gift is really Baby 3.0 since she lost Baby 2.0 two months ago) than she was in her little brother. We had put together a diaper bag for Baby and found a toy baby carrier for Baby to be brought in with. The nurse, a grandmotherly woman named June was thrilled to help.

Mostly, Sydney was not the least bit bothered by Jack... or the least bit interested. There is a big part of me that wants to say that Sydney's first encounter with her brother was the same as mine: love at first sight. But, as her Daddy pointed out, we'll take indifference over openly hostile jealousy any day.
I am so happy for you guys. Sidney will be a pro at the big sister thing in no time! Lots of love you guys!
