Going to the Zoo

Today we went out to the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco.

I would sum up our visit with three points.

1. Some rumors are true.
2. The Gonzalez's rock.
3. Sydney loves that guy.

We had heard all of these rumors about the zoo in Waco. Everyone was all, "oh it's the nicest little zoo," "oh, you should take your kids there, it's really neat," etc. Everyone who has been just gushes about it. Whatever. It's a zoo in Waco.

Well, we finally had a reason to go. Jeremy's dad and step-mom, Grandpa and Grandma Nolen are moving to Dallas and they were there for the weekend house hunting and we wanted to see them without committing to a full weekend trip ourselves. So we met halfway in between in Waco and decided to go to the zoo.

The zoo in Waco is beautiful! It's the nicest little zoo. You should totally take your kids there. It's neatly landscaped with a lot of attention to detail in the various exhibits and is actually a nicer meandering walk than the Houston Zoo, even if it lacks the diversity of exhibits. A lot of the set-ups let you get closer to the animals and see them better than I have seen in a lot of other zoos, as well.

Also, we can go back just about whenever we want because the Gonzalez's rock and bought us a family membership to the Houston Zoo which lets us in Cameron Park for free as well. So there.

But the best part for Sydney was that guy. You know, the one whose shoulders she is riding on. She kept trying to call him the right thing, Grandpa Nolen, Grandfather, just "father" and finally, some times she would just say, "that guy" and point. Regardless, she thought he was really neat.

Personally, I thought it was neat that Sydney has a grandpa young and fit enough to carry her around on his shoulders and get on the ground to look at alligators with her. Not every little girl is that lucky, I would say.

Needless to say, we are thrilled that Grandpa Nolen (that guy) and Grandma Nolen (woefully unrepresented in this post, I'm afraid because she was in the background keeping me company while Grandpa, Dad, and Sydney got to have all the fun) are moving back to Texas.

And that, as it turns out, we have such a neat zoo just an hour and half away.
