Sesame Street Live

For Valentine's Day, we felt that nothing said, "I love you, Sydney," like taking her to see Sesame Street Live. So, we got up Valentine's morning and drove to downtown Austin and walked through some of the prettiest parts of Austin to get to the Erwin Center.

Once in the Erwin center, we had almost forty five minutes to walk around and look at all of the overpriced merchandise in these kiosks. We were saved from a lot of buying pressure by the simple fact that they didn't take credit cards and by the time I found an ATM, I had taken enough time to evaluate possible buyer's remorse and realized that the only thing I really wanted, a t-shirt for Sydney, wasn't even that high of a priority. So, yeah us for avoiding the trap of buying expensive tickets to take a toddler to a show and then compounding the cost by buying unnecessary junk.

These super cute Elmo balloons, for example, were ten dollars a piece.

Here's the proof that many, many people actually bought them.

Sydney spent most of the show sitting with her daddy. Every twenty minutes or so, her attention span would wane and she would get down and play with her seat (seat goes up, seat goes down) and then settle back in with her dad after a few minutes.

All of Sydney's favorites were in the show, with a big emphasis on Elmo and Big Bird. Since Elmo is her current favorite, she thought this was just perfect. They sang a lot of songs, which Sydney loved, and after each musical number, Sydney clapped and clapped. After the show was over at noon, Jeremy and I both felt like we had already had one of the best Valentine's Days ever, which is particularly nice when you consider that the day was not even half over.

In fact, after the show, we walked through one of the prettiest parts of Austin to get to the Serranos on Red River, which was a favorite restaurant of mine and Jeremy's from back in the days when we lived on East Riverside (yo).



The Serranos is at Symphony Square, which is shockingly beautiful for being in the midst of an urban landscape, so we took many pretty pictures:





And because it is Valentine's Day, a picture of just Sydney's parents, enjoying a romantic dinner (with Sydney chaperoning, of course):
