Last year, we were in Houston, but the year before that we were in Austin and went to the Austin Nature Center. Since we were still here in town, we decided to head back there for most of the morning.
I, of course, got the kids and myself all decked in green. Jeremy has had the same "Made in Ireland" t-shirt since 2006, and he wears it every year.
After the zoo yesterday, with Sydney all about the water there, we knew she would enjoy the nature center. She and her dad walked on the rocks out to the "islands" in the middle of the Nature Center stream over and over and over again.
They named the first island "Dry Island" and the one after the toadstools "Footprint Island."
Mostly, though, Sydney just reveled in the water. Water, water everywhere!
After a very long time at the water, we went exploring and found this gate for the very first time. (I love that we have been to the Austin Nature Center so many times and can still be surprised.)
Of course, to Sydney, any gate like this must go to Prince John's backyard. I have no idea how much time we spent at this overlook with her running around being Robin Hood or Little John (her dad would be whichever of the two she wasn't). I was Maid Marian and Jack was asleep and therefore was part of the scenery and she named him Sherwood Forest.
We then pretended that all of the wooded area around the overlook was Sherwood Forest, which Sydney thought was magnificent.
After spending a long time in Sherwood Forest, Sydney went back to the water and then we left the Nature Center to go the Riverside Park where all the sprinklers are.
Because, of course, after playing at the Nature Center, Sydney needed more water. We had planned on eating at some South Austin original restaurant, but Sydney specifically asked for Red Robin, so Red Robin is where we went.
