This is Sydney and Emmalyn McCall. The McCall's came in from Houston for the weekend. We would have been thrilled to see them under any circumstances, but this visit was particularly exciting. For the last nine months, we have been unable to see them at all because Kristy had come down with a virus called CMV that is particularly disastrous in pregnant women and their unborn children.Since it had been so long since the girls had seen each other, Kristy and I were worried that they might not get along, or just be stranger-shy.
It turns out that we needn't have worried. The girls were very at ease with each other. They played together, inside and out, did crafts together, cooked together, ate together, and even slept in the same room together. In the entire weekend, they had two little squabbles over toys that were quickly solved with minimal adult intervention.
It made me so happy to see Sydney playing with Emmalyn. Kristy is so special to me, and Jeremy and Nat have been friends for so long that on the one hand, it seemed natural that our children would be friends, but on the other hand, as close as the four of us are, it seemed unlikely that we could luck into the same kind of synergy with our daughters.
So far, though, it seems like luck is with us.Or, as Kristy pointed out while we were watching the girls playing, with Sydney talking a mile a minute and Emma just listening and taking it all in, maybe the girls get along so well because they are both a lot like their mothers.
how nice to see them together again... 2 peas in a pod!
