The Winter Hurrah

It's not The Last Day of Summer. It wasn't even the last day of the winter break. It was the second to last, but we knew we would be cleaning house for New Year's Eve today and then came the weekend. So on Thursday, we had a choice: send the kids to daycare and take care of chores, or have one last day out all together during our Winter Break.

And so the Winter Hurrah was born.

We started the day with breakfast at Monument and then went to Kelly Park, Sydney's new favorite park.

Then we went to see Sydney's first princess movie, Tangled. She enjoyed the first part of the movie and then got bored. We did take the headphones like the ones we used for Toy Story 3 and found them to be very helpful. After the movie, the kids played in the movie arcade for a bit.

It was then home for naps and the rest of the afternoon was spent playing in the backyard until sundown.

A perfect last hurrah for the Winter Break.

  1. I've been hoping someone with little ones would go see that film so I could get a sound opinion. Do you think it's a little-kid friendly movie? Do you think Pip would like it, based on what you know about him?

  2. I think he would like it... but with these caveats: The villain is the witch who kidnapped Rapunzel. This brings up the idea of being kidnapped (Sydney didn't get hung up on this point, but Pip is more sensitive in a lot of ways) and also it means that Rapunzel calls the villain "mother" which could be upsetting. The witch also speaks to Rapunzel in upsetting ways -- telling her ugly things and then saying she was joking -- it could hit a nerve with someone or confuse a little person who is used to words matching emotion.

  3. Thanks for the helpful review. I think, given those factors, that we'll wait awhile to show Pip.
