More Time with Family

Sydney and her daddy love sitting on this swing at Gram's house. It's one of the things they do. We went over to Gram's on Saturday to see some of the remodeling that she has been working to get finished. It really is starting to look like a whole new house.

Jeremy's excitement, though, was with some old things. While we were looking at the newly carpeted and painted upstairs bedrooms, he found some of his old books and toys.

The toys, a collection of micro-machines, we brought downstairs and the kids played happily with their daddy's toy cars while he helped work on a real car outside.

On Father's Day, we went out to Schlitterbaun in Galveston. Not having a waterproof camera, we didn't take any pictures, there, but we had an awful lot of fun. The kids played in the splash pools and kid slide for hours. We rode the lazy river around the park six or seven times. The only drama was when the inner tube carrying Sydney, Jack, and me went over and all three of us went under. It was intense, especially for Sydney, but everyone was just fine. Sydney's big take-away from the whole thing is that lifeguards, in addition to blowing their whistles when you break the rules, can actually help people.

After Schlitterbaun, we went over to Nana's house. Sydney is currently fascinated by Nana because it turns out that Sydney's Gram used to be Nana's little girl! Wow. I am actually a little impressed that Sydney can wrap her head around that one. She has been asking questions like that a lot lately. "Whose little girl/boy did ____ used to be?"

I tried very hard to get an "official" Father's Day picture of Jeremy with the kids.

My goofy family. They just would not sit still.

Rachel, Will and Jamie had spent the morning paying their respects to James and then came over to Nana's to have dinner with the family. Will was very interested in having time with his daddy's big brother on Father's Day and I think Jeremy understood that. I thought it was particularly precious that Jamie, too, thought it was interesting to be involved in the video game discussion.

I love that the kids got to see all three of their surviving great grandparents on Father's Day weekend. Being around the extended family and Sydney's questions about family have inspired me to start a little family tree project later in the summer.
